Self-inflicted anaesthesia. Fieldwork with exes. Finding strength following the tragic loss of a family member. These were just a few of the stories 91直播’s scientists shared when they swapped the lab for the stage at an inspiring event in 91直播’s city centre.
(pictured), , , Dr Sinead Savage and Leslie Molina Ramirez recounted the moments that have challenged and driven them at the free evening at The Birdcage in December.
The event was a collaboration with Story Collider, a non-profit organisation dedicated to true, personal stories about science. It was funded by the University’s Investing in Success scheme that allows staff to apply for funding to unlock their potential.
Commenting on the event, Professor Cruickshank, Professor in Public Engagement and Biomedical Sciences, said: “Stories help connect people to subject matter that may at first seem abstract or irrelevant.
“They help create meaning, context and shared experience – the ethos of high-quality public engagement.”
